INTERNSHIP

Interning at Dome printing was an amazing experience for me with many reasons. Not only did I get the learn and go hands on with professional printing, but I got to work with my father. Some of the specific skills that I improved on was organization and commitment. These are skills that I improved on and needed for further work experience. These skills were used in every duty that I had to do. I was not able to go straight into printing but I eventually got to help assist my father with a couple of them. The main activity that I did every time that I showed up was cleaning. This is something that would take up half of the day but it was an easy task. Another duty that I performed was organizing shelves. This task helped me with my organization skills because I had to organize material so that the workers can use it for the following week. A specific duty that took a lot of effort was moving pallets. This took a lot of effort because there was a lot of pallets around the holidays and they needed to be moved from the building to the back and be stacked. My favorite duty that I got to preform was assisting my father with printing and learning how to load the printing material. This was exciting because I got to learn how the printers work and get hands on experience with it. There was challenging obstacles with this because I was nervous when first doing this because I didn't want to mess anything up. I had the assistance from my father on how to properly do it  and watch what it can do in action. This experience was a huge highlight to me because I got to learn more about professional printing. A key benefit was that I got to work under my father and learn more about what he does. I was glad that ACLC engaged me to this program because if it wasn't for ACLC, I would have never learned this.

Internship Logs

Week 1: 12/10/16

Although the first day was not much of a challenge, it was still only my first day. It was an easy start because I worked at my dad's job at Dome Printing. When I first arrived he introduced me to the other workers of the company and gave me a tour of the building. Although my father didn't let me go straight into helping him print stuff, he gave me duties of what to do. Since it was my first my main duties were to just clean and organize some shelves. I probably spent most of the day cleaning because It was a big building and the end of the week were there had to be a lot of stuff thrown out. Towards the end I had to organize some documents into shelves and prepare stuff for the beginning of the week. The day ended at noon for my dad and I so it was not a difficult day so I was looking forward for the following weekend.

Week 2: 12/17/16

This was the second week into working and it was going smoothly. My first time their I was shy and nervous because I didn't know what to expect. This time I did not have the same feeling, it felt like a routine just like going to school. I had the same tasks as my first day so I already knew what to do. I had to start by cleaning but the good thing about it was that I got to listen to music so I got done a lot quicker. After I was done with that my next job was to move pallets. It was pretty simple all I had to do was transfer the pallets from inside the building to the back where they needed to be stacked up. Before my I left my dad was showing my the printing in action. It was quite interesting to see machines like that because I mainly use the little printers. I was really looking forward to the next time because my dad said I can help out and learn about the printing process.

Week 3: 1/7/17

This week followed up with my starting off with the same tasks. There was not much for me to clean so that was something I was happy about. It was right after the holidays so there was a lot of pallets that needed to be moved. Moving the pallets took a while because there was a lot and it took a while for me to take them out back and stack them up neatly. I ended the day of with helping my dad load the printing materials into the printer. He was teaching me how to do it and it was quite tricky loading it in. I really enjoyed learning how to do this and this made be excited to do it again and learn more.

Week 4: 1/14/17

Today was the last day and I was happy and sad at the same time. It was a slow day so I really didn’t have to do much besides do the samething. The main thing that I did was organize the shelves for the following Monday for when the workers come in. My part of the day was assisting my father out in printing. I got to load up the printing materials and I felt that I did better at it then the previous week. When the day ended I got to go home with more knowledge about printing than I had before.
